I run a tour operator here in Levi, Finnish Lapland, and I build these holidays every week. So here are real numbers, based on what our clients actually pay in the 2026/27 winter season.
The short answer
For a tailor-made winter holiday in Finnish Lapland, plan with these ranges per person, excluding flights:
- Budget-conscious trip: 1700-2500 € per person. Good hotel or apartment, airport transfers, and a couple of well-chosen activities in groups.
- Mid-range trip: 2500-3500 € per person. Better accommodation (or one or two nights in a glass igloo), more activities, some of them private.
- Premium trip: 3500 € and up per person. Glass igloos or design suites, private safaris with your own guide, and everything arranged door to door.
A family of four typically lands somewhere between 6000 € and 12000 € for a week, depending on the choices below.
If a price you see online is far below these ranges, look carefully at what it actually includes.
What actually drives the price
Four things decide almost the entire cost of a Lapland holiday. If you understand them, you can steer your budget exactly where you want it.
1. When you travel
Lapland has real seasons inside the winter, and prices follow them.
- Christmas and New Year (mid-December to early January) is the most expensive time of the year. Accommodation prices can be 30-50 % higher than in other winter weeks, and the best places sell out up to a year in advance.
- January is the value sweet spot: full winter, polar twilight colours, aurora season in full swing, and lower prices.
- February is the second high season – Hotels are full
- March sits in the middle. More daylight, warmer temperatures.
- Late March and April bring spring snow and long sunny days, often at friendly prices.
Same holiday, different week, and the difference can be 500-800 € per person.
2. Where you sleep
Accommodation is the biggest single line in any Lapland budget.
- A good hotel room or a central apartment in Levi or Rovaniemi typically costs 150-300 € per night for two people.
- Cabins and villas vary hugely, from cosy log cabins to luxury villas with their own sauna and fireplace at 400-900 € per night.
- Glass igloos and aurora cabins are the famous ones, and they are priced accordingly: usually 400-800 € per night for two, at Christmas even more.
Here is the tip I give every client: you do not need seven nights in a glass igloo. Two nights under the glass roof for the aurora experience, and the rest in a comfortable hotel or apartment, gives you the magic without doubling the budget.
3. Group activities or private ones
A husky safari, a reindeer farm visit, a snowmobile trip and an aurora tour form the classic Lapland programme. The price depends heavily on how you do them.
- Small-group activities cost roughly 100-200 € per adult per activity. You share the experience with other travellers, and for many people that is perfectly fine.
- Private activities, with your own guide and your own schedule, typically cost 1,5 to 2,5 times the group price. For families with small children, for couples celebrating something, or for anyone who wants to go at their own pace, the difference is worth every euro. Private husky safaris are the most expensive activity to do.
A realistic activity budget for a week is 400-700 € per person with group tours, or 800-1500 € per person if most of the programme is private.
4. Who puts it all together
You can book every piece yourself. Many people do. But then you are also the one comparing dozens of suppliers, checking pickup times, judging which “aurora tour” is actually good, and solving problems when a transfer does not show up at -25 °C.
When a local operator builds the package, you pay one price for a holiday where the pieces fit together: accommodation, transfers and activities planned as one whole, with someone on the ground who knows the suppliers personally and answers when you call.

What is usually not included
So you can compare prices fairly, here is what most Lapland packages, ours included, do not cover:
- Flights. Return flights from Central Europe to Kittilä or Rovaniemi typically cost 250-600 € per person, depending on the season and how early you book.
- Most meals. Breakfast is usually included; lunches and dinners are not. Plan with 40-70 € per adult per day if you eat out.
