Hiking in Levi

Within an hour’s drive from Levi, there are many beautiful hills to explore.

Hike up a hill

For local people in Lapland, hiking up a hill is the classic day trip. We pack some food in a backpack, go hiking for a few hours, have a lunch break, and enjoy the views from the top.

On our day hikes, we usually go to Pallas or Särkitunturi. Pallas is located inside Pallas–Yllästunturi National Park, and Särkitunturi is right next to it. They are among the most beautiful and easily accessible hiking spots near Levi.

The hiking is relatively easy — the elevation gain is around 250–400 meters, and the total distance is 6–10 km.

Autumn is the best time for hiking

September is the best time for hiking in Lapland. The temperatures are cool, and the autumn colors are at their brightest. Nature is full of warm red and orange tones.

If you visit in summer, the hills are also great destinations because their cooler air and the wind often help keep mosquitoes away, hopefully.

Multi-day hiking in Lapland

We offer guided Hetta–Pallas hiking tours in Lapland. The Hetta–Pallas Trail is the most popular hiking route in the region. It’s about 50 km (35 miles) long and runs through Pallas–Yllästunturi National Park.

The trail goes over hills and down into small valleys, then climbs up again to give hikers another beautiful view from the next hill. The hike usually takes 3–4 days. You can spend the nights in cabins or tents.

Read more information about the trail and the national park here. Send us a message and let’s plan your hike together.
